What is NIC ?

NIC- Network interface card is a hardware component to connect with network.

It is used to connect a computer, servers over a network to share the data. Without NIC we can’t connect the device to network.

It can be wired and wireless(antenna-wifi).

NIC is attached to the motherboard, it acts as an interface between computer and cable. It is a middleware between computer and data network.

NIC is used to convert data into signal. NIC uses physical layer to transmit signals and network layer to transmit data packets.

Every NIC card has a unique 48-bit address called as MAC address which is a permanent one.

Network Interface Card is also known as Network Interface Controller, Network Adapter, Ethernet card, Connection card, and LAN (Local Area Network) Adapter.

Components of NIC:

Memory, Connectors, Processor, Jumpers,Routers, MAC address.

Processor: converts the data into signal format.

Memory: used to store the data being transmitted

Working:

When a user requests a web page, the computer will pass the request to NIC which converts it into electrical impulses. Those impulses are received by a web server on the internet & responds by sending the web page back to NIC as electrical signals. https://youtu.be/QHoW3GEWLD8
