POC filter

What is POC?

Power Over Coax is a technology for transmitting the video and power over coaxial cable. This cable eliminates the need for separate cables, reduce cost and installation time.

This term is also called as phantom power i.e power and data share the same cable.

It is used in applications of automobiles ADAS cameras, industrial equipment cameras for visual inspections.

PoC FILTER:

The PoC filter consists of inductor, capacitor and chip beads to separate the power supply and the signal used on the circuit.

The power supply is injected to the coaxial cable with the use of poc inductor at one end and at the other end the power is extracted with the help of poc inductor.

Consider there is a camera module and control unit, the poc filter on the control unit is need to merge the DC power and video signal. On the other side of the camera module, a poc filter is need to separate the Signal and power. The stable DC power is given to the camera module.

How this happen?

With the help of passive components- inductor(L) and Capacitor(C).

“Video(Ac) and Power Supply(DC)” Capacitor pass the high frequency signals, block the DC supply. Inductor pass the DC, block the high frequency signals.

To ensure the communication quality, inductors that realize high impedance for AC components is required. If it is low, the AC signal may get into the power line and signals may be attenuated.

So, to achieve the high impedance we need to use multiple inductors.
